About the role

Sitters Co is a curated local sitter network in Ontario. We're building smaller, community-based pools of vetted sitters instead of the giant directories you'll find elsewhere — so families get real choice, and sitters get matched with people they'd actually want to work with.

As a sitter in Kingston, your day-to-day might include supervising play, preparing simple meals or snacks, helping with homework, managing bedtime routines, and being a calm, kind presence for kids while parents are out. Bookings range from a few hours on a weekend evening to regular after-school care.

Open to working with older adults too? When you apply, you can also opt in to non-medical elder care companion shifts (companionship, light home help, errands, respite for primary caregivers) — you only see shifts in the categories you opt into.

Highly encouraged to apply

Childcare pros, students, and healthcare workers

We're intentionally building a high-quality local network — not a random directory. If you have real childcare training or experience, families in Kingston want to hear from you. It's flexible income, a way to build your resume, and meaningful work close to home.

  • Early Childhood Educators (ECE / RECE / ECA)
  • Nurses (RN, RPN) and nursing students
  • Personal Support Workers (PSWs)
  • Teachers, supply teachers, and B.Ed students
  • Child & Youth Workers
  • Camp counsellors, coaches, and youth leaders
  • Education, social work, and child-studies students
  • Experienced nannies and after-school caregivers

Already have a Vulnerable Sector Check?

Put it to work. If you already hold a valid VSC from teaching, nursing, PSW work, coaching, or volunteering, you can use it to start earning sooner. No VSC yet? No problem — we'll help you complete an Enhanced Background check during onboarding.

Heads up: we require prior childcare experience outside of your own family — paid or volunteer. Daycare, camps, classroom, tutoring, coaching, and nannying all count.

FAQ

How much do child caregivers in Kingston earn through Sitters Co?

Sitters typically earn $18–$30 CAD per hour, depending on experience, the family's needs, and the booking. All payments run through the platform.

Is this a full-time or part-time job?

Part-time and flexible. You choose which booking opportunities you want to apply for — evenings, weekends, after-school, date nights, or full days. There's no weekly commitment.

Do I need formal childcare experience?

You need childcare experience outside of your own family — paid or volunteer. That could be daycare, summer camps, classroom assisting, tutoring, coaching, nannying, youth group leadership, or similar. Formal credentials like ECE, RECE, ECA, RN/RPN, PSW, B.Ed, or first aid / CPR-C are a big plus and we strongly encourage qualified professionals and students in these fields to apply.

I already have a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC). Can I use it?

Yes — if you have a valid Vulnerable Sector Check from a recent role (e.g. teaching, nursing, PSW, coaching, volunteer work), you can put it to work and start earning. If you don't have one, that's okay — you'll just need to be willing to complete one as part of onboarding.

Is there a cost to apply?

No. Applying is free, and there's no obligation if we invite you to the next step.

When will I start getting bookings?

Once you're approved and your area is live, you'll start seeing booking opportunities from families in Kingston. Timing depends on local family demand and how quickly you complete onboarding.
